2018 marks the 20th instalment of the European Universities Debating Championship (EUDC), hosted this year by the Novi Sad Business School in Novi Sad, Serbia.

This annual tournament will host more than 700 participants, from over 30 countries across Europe, to compete in a battle of wits and skills over who can provide the most persuasive and comprehensive case to an assigned topic after only 15 minutes of preparation. The EUDC is held in English, between 30.07 – 05.08, with nine preliminary rounds over the first three days and a different topic in each round.

The format, which pits four teams against each other in two opposing sides, with two teams per side and two members per team, is known as British Parliamentary Style (BPS). The top teams will get to continue debating for a further two days in the elimination outrounds, for both English native speakers as well as speakers of English as a second language (ESL). Past winners and veteran debaters will also participate as adjudicators in the tournament, the best of which will be selected to judge the outrounds.

Novi Sad is the second largest city in Serbia, the capital of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, and an important cultural centre, home to numerous cultural events and musical concerts. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the best of what the city has to offer and get to know each other during various activities planned after the debating rounds.

Regular updates will follow as details are confirmed. Be sure to stay tuned for the latest news about the event!
